How To Lose 15 Pounds of Winter Weight

Did you put on 15 pounds during winter and are now desperate to get it off?  Winter weight can creep on without us really noticing it.  In winter we wear loose comfy clothing that hides our bodies and eat lots of warm comfort food.  But the problem is that we don’t monitor our weight or size and before we know it the pounds have packed on. When the time comes to put on summer clothes we often get a shock at our rounder, bigger bodies. The older we get we can find ourselves in a yo-yo cycle of weight gain over winter and weight loss during the summer.  If you want to lose 15 pounds fast you are going to have to be dedicated otherwise the weight will not come off at all.  The pounds won’t drop off by themselves and you will not feel comfortable no matter what you do.

Our bodies naturally hold onto weight during winter.  We need fat to protect our inner organs and the extra layer helps to keep us warm.  There are a few tricks you can do to signal your body that spring time is here and it’s NOW the time to lose weight.  If you want to lose weight as fast as possible you need to be disciplined and have your eyes set on your goal.

Don’t listen to your own negative self-talk if you feel like the weight is not coming off as fast as you like or at all. Remember if you are over 40 your body is not going to lose it as quickly as it did when you were younger.  Give your older body time to adjust.   Negative thinking can get you off track and even lead to depression, which will probably end up in comfort eating.  Just stay focussed and you will get there.

Now that we are over 40 our goals need to be realistic and achievable.  You may not get the 6 pack you had when you were in your 30’s or get as lean.  BUT you can still be really fit and look great for your age.  You can even look a lot younger than you’re your actual years.  The closer we get to 50 means we are heading towards the heart attack years and joints that don’t function as they use to.  Its much better to focus on heart health and enabling our bodies to work without pain and restriction first and then work on building and shaping our bodies.

Setting long term goals is fine, but short term goals are easier to achieve. Break your goals down into small weekly goals that will carry you through to your long term goals. Keep track of your achievements just for motivational purposes.

Allow yourself a day off.  Have one day a week for eating what you want to eat. Don’t go crazy and eat everything in sight!  But allow yourself some cake, or go out to dinner and really enjoy it without making yourself guilty.  But the next day get back on track otherwise you may find yourself cheating every day.

If you are finding that you lack motivation or feel disheartened by your results perhaps you should create a visual of how you will perceive yourself once you have lost the weight. Maybe you do need to put up a picture of your slimmer self on the fridge or print out a picture of the hotel you will be staying in on your next holiday.  Even pictures of the clothes you would like to buy or a motivational quote may help you.

Losing weight after 40 is achievable for anyone.  But we do have to admit that we are not young anymore and need to treat our bodies with a bit more care. We can still look great and feel energetic but our approach has to be more controlled and planned then when we were young.

Best Way To Lose 10 Pounds Fast

Do you have a special event to go to or are you just desperate to lose 10, 15 or 20 pounds fast?  Losing weight after 40 is a challenge.  Especially after 45.  I know from personal experience.  In my 30’s I had a lot of energy, drive and motivation to get up and go to the gym.  But somewhere around 42, I lost it.  As I am getting closer to 50 I have thought often that the time is NOW to make a change and put in the effort.  The pounds have crept on and I wonder how many more will I put on after I hit 50!  It really makes me wonder.

Recently I had to attend a Christening.  This was a Greek Christening and people do go very well dressed.  I knew that I needed a new outfit as everything was too tight in my closet. I refused to spend a ton of money on a dress that would only sit in my closet as a museum piece, given that we rarely go out anywhere special.  I ended up buying a lovely dress online for a reasonable amount and it was very nice.  Yay online shopping!

The dress had a definite waist so I knew I had to get rid of some belly bloat, even if just for the day. My belly is my problem area.

I am glad to say that I DID achieve the trimmed look that I wanted on the day.

So what did I do?

I started out 2 weeks before the day and this is what I did to lose pounds fast.

  1.  I watched what I ate very carefully, especially the week before.  I am Gluten intolerant and if I eat the wrong food I easily bloat.  Most people after 40 – 45 have identified foods that don’t ‘agree’ with them.  So I avoided anything that I knew would cause me to bloat.  For me that was bread, chips, biscuits, pasta and sweets.  I even eliminated Gluten free products as they have made me bloat.

2.  I did a weekend detox on chicken broth.  I slow boiled a chicken over 1 day and then put the juice into a jug in the fridge. On a Friday night I did not eat food and had the broth instead. And then again on Saturday I just drank the broth.  I also drank a lot of water in its own and with a powder in it to help flush out my digestive system.

Note:  When I was diagnosed as being Gluten intolerant I had the procedures where the cameras go down you throat and up your …. (do I need to say it?).  This procedure is to get a visual on your bowel, colon and intestines.  I came back as having no signs of Celiac disease, but based on my bodies reactions my Specialist said I was highly Gluten intolerant and to watch it carefully so it doesn’t progress to Celiac Disease.  To prepare for this procedure you have to eliminate all the waste from inside your bowel, colon and intestines.  This involved drinking lots of water and chicken broth and taking a powder in the water to help get rid of all the waste and build up.   The Specialist said it would do my body well to repeat this clean out once a year.  I will not say what powder is as if you are thinking of doing this you should get the recommendation and approval from your Doctor.

That’s what I did and for me that’s the best way to lose pounds fast.  My stomach was actually fairly flat, my arms were thinner, my legs were thinner and my face was not as bloated.

This may be too extreme for you and if so I understand.  Below are other ways and small things you can do to help you lose weight.

Fast weight loss is usually water weight loss.  Losing the extra fluid will make you appear thinner from head to toe.

Several other methods can help you drop water weight and appear leaner and lighter. These include:

Taking a water retention supplement or get a prescription from the Doctor.  Celery is a common herbal diuretic that I have used before. I have not used a celery supplement in a long time as I do not want to place extra burden on my kidneys.  But if you need to get rid of excess water for a special occasion, it won’t hurt you.  Again I will say to seek medical advice or the advice of the consultant at your local health food store, especially if you have not taken it before.

Eat smaller meals more often.  A large meal will take longer to digest and you may not burn off the energy gain from the food.  Smaller meals are metabolized by our bodies faster and will make you feel full.  Grazing every few hours is better then starving yourself (unless your on a planned detox).

Reduce the amount of carb loaded food you eat.  If you can eliminate carbs or greatly reduce the amount you are eating this will help a lot.  Eat a gigantic salad with tuna or make a home made soup full of vegetable and fill up on that instead.

Our bodies are designed so that the food we eat is used by the body as energy to perform normal functions.  What ever is not used is stored as fats.

Do some exercise.  As much as we don’t like it and may not want to exercise it is still one of the greatest benefits to our bodies.  When we exercise we are burning up energy.  Our bodies burns the stored fats and regular exercise also helps our digestive system.  Its beneficial for our whole bodies.
